The full biography of Gestranius and Cruor Deum

Well, well... where to begin..?

I first thought of making my own music at the age of 13-14. That's when me and my friend found this tracker program and started to use it. With very simple structure and mostly for fun, we sat down together and tried to mix something together to make it sound like a song. We had sessions at his place where we would spend hours making [so-called] parody music.

Cruor Deum eventually evolved from these sessions. I wanted to see if anything serious could be made with this program. With almost no talent or knowledge of tracking programs, I went head over heels into it. At first, I was really bad at it. One reason was that my musical knowledge wasn't so fully evolved then as it is today. I would accept anything, and I mean a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g I made, and thought it was a good track. It was around this time I got into death and black metal.

I remember it very clearly. Someone had given me a tip about this band called "Cradle of Filth". At this time the heaviest, most brutal band I listened to was late Sepultura. The music sense in my hometown is as evolved as technology on the moon. Well, I downloaded one track of this infamous band COF. I was home alone, and played back this song. I was terrified, I don't think I got any sleep that night :)

And this, ladies & gentlemen, was Cradle of Filth. Compared to other acts in these genres, they appear quite soft. Soon, I was introduced to several other bands, and slowly started to get in to the scene. At first it was all overwhelming and really tough to get in to, but it got easier with time.

I began to take influences from these band, and incorporate it in to my own music. A whole new world opened up for me. All these new possibilities and options, it all became very clear. After that, Cruor Deum evolved into a quite professional project.

As of me, I still adore the black and death genres, though not with as much passion I once had when I approached it.

Funny thing, when you're totally in this black metal thing, you sort of forget all other metal genres. When this phase starts to fade away, you re-notice all the subgenres of metal. I would not be as strong as I am today if it weren't for the whole thing they call "metal". I hope you can embrace it as I do...

Now, go listen to my music :)

Yours Truly
